The holy city of Puri in Odisha is once again bustling with fervor and excitement as devotees from all corners of the country gather to celebrate the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra, one of the most significant Hindu festivals. Amidst the beating of drums and chanting of hymns, the atmosphere is charged with spirituality and devotion.
The Jagannath Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, marks the journey of Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra, from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple.
“The Rath Yatra is not just a festival; it’s an expression of our faith and devotion to Lord Jagannath,” said Ramesh Pradhan, a pilgrim who traveled from neighboring Bihar to witness the event. “It is believed that participating in the pulling of the chariot brings blessings and fulfillment of wishes.”
The Jagannath Rath Yatra is also a time for communal harmony and unity, as people from diverse backgrounds come together to partake in the festivities.
As the sun rises over the horizon, illuminating the majestic chariots and the sea of devotees, the Jagannath Rath Yatra 2024 stands as a testament to the enduring spiritual legacy of India.
The festivities are set to culminate with the return journey of the deities to the Jagannath Temple, known as Bahuda Yatra, after a week-long sojourn at the Gundicha Temple. The Jagannath Rath Yatra not only reaffirms faith but also leaves an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those who witness its splendor, promising blessings and prosperity for all.
“On the auspicious occasion of the world-renowned Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, I send my heartfelt best wishes to everyone. Today, countless devotees of Jagannath from across the country and the world eagerly await the sight of the divine trio seated on the chariot. On this joyous festival, I pray to Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath for the happiness, peace, and prosperity of all. Hail Jagannath!” – Message posted by the President of India on social media X.
“Greetings on the start of the sacred Rath Yatra. We bow to Mahaprabhu Jagannath and pray that His blessings constantly remain upon us. ” PM Narendra Modi Tweets.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee extended her greetings to the people on the occasion of Rath Yatra, wishing that Lord Jagannath brings them peace, harmony, and prosperity, according to a report by news agency PTI.
